RASHMI is a singer, songwriter, actress, screenwriter and Brooklynite.
RASHMI has performed her own music in New York City, Austin, Dallas, Toronto, Philadelphia and Los Angeles in as diverse venues as The Roxy, The Mint, On the Rox, Genghis Cohen, Crane's, The Roosevelt Hotel, The Kibbitz Room, Molly Malones, Highland Grounds, The Talking Stick, Googie’s (above the Living Room), Sidewalk Café, Phoebe’s café, and the Bitter End. She has also entertained audiences at the Monrovia Arts Festival, American Cancer Society events and the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles. Her songs have been commissioned for film and dance/theatre. Her melodic country rock sound is unique, with her varied & diverse influences, and sound great acoustic or with a band. As an actress, RASHMI has a strong theatrical background with credits that include THE SKIN OF OUR TEETH at the Public Theatre's Shakespeare in the Park, ANTIGONE at the New York Fringe Festival and TAMBURLAINE with Target Margin Theatre. Rashmi was nominated for an AUDELCO award for her performance in WITH STRINGS at the Africa Arts Theatre.
In Los Angeles, she was a member of the prestigious Classical Theatre Lab of Los Angeles with whom she performed in THE MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR. She co-founded her own theatre company, SPHERE ARTISTS. Their productions of both THE MADWOMAN OF CHAILLOT and the West Coast Premiere of PAINTED ALICE, in which she played Alice, were commercially viable and well reviewed. Her acting credits include features Ron Howard's ANGELS & DEMONS, Ed Zwick's THE SIEGE, and indie films like THE BIG APPLE and most recently, GIMME SHELTER.
As a screenwriter, RASHMI’s first feature, THE DIVIDE, has been selected as one of the five finalists for the UrbanWorld Film Festival. THE DIVIDE also made it into the top 25% of the Page International Screenwriting Awards.
