Open on a little girl in Texas in cowboy boots dancing to country music with her pals, then cut to her mother dragging her around the villages of India so she could see how most people live and hear the folk songs there. Back in Texas, she absorbs the Hindi film soundtracks her parents listen to in the car and at home, and at school her choir director trains her for classical music contests in Italian and German. She gets into her school glee club and sings standards, musical theatre, pop and rock music. She wins a country music contest, leads a Bollywood cover band, tours with a church choir as a soprano, performs Sondheim and Bacharach in musicals, picks up the guitar and starts writing her own stuff. What does the music sound like – Take a listen!
